Dishes go on edge rather than stacked flat, because a plate on its edge survives a jolt that would crack a stacked one. Glasses are individually wrapped in cell dividers. No box is closed with a void in it, since a half-empty box crushes when something goes on top. Lamps come apart. Base, harp and shade travel separately, because a packed shade is the single most commonly crushed item in any move. Every box is labelled with its destination room, which is what makes unpacking survivable.

What Professional Packing Actually Changes About Breakage
